Sep.17 (GMM) Formula 1 and the FIA have officially confirmed the 2027 calendar, with 24 Grands Prix, the returns of Portugal and Turkey and an expanded program of ten Sprint events.
The season will begin in Bahrain after pre-season testing there from February 24-27, followed by Saudi Arabia, before moving through Australia, Japan and China.
Portugal returns in June, while Turkey rejoins the calendar in October between Azerbaijan and Singapore.
The final two rounds remain Qatar and Abu Dhabi despite continuing uncertainty surrounding the Middle East.
One of the more unusual changes is Monaco becoming a Sprint event for the first time. That means fans will effectively get two qualifying sessions on a weekend where qualifying has traditionally been by far the most dramatic part of the event.
Bahrain, Australia, Japan and Abu Dhabi will also host Sprints for the first time, while Montreal, Silverstone, Monza, Sao Paulo and Lusail retain the format.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said in the official announcement: “We are thrilled to welcome Portugal and T rkiye to the championship and to expand Sprint racing to ten events.”
The final calendar also appears favourable for Max Verstappen’s endurance ambitions.
Unlike earlier leaked versions, there are no clashes with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, N rburgring or Spa, all races Verstappen has said he wants to contest when his F1 schedule allows it.
Meanwhile, separate reports say Zandvoort, Imola and Barcelona are being kept available as contingency venues if Middle East races or testing are disrupted again.
Imola is also still widely expected to replace Abu Dhabi as the 2026 finale if the current late-season calendar has to be altered.
