Jul.6 (GMM) Christian Horner insists he bears no resentment towards Red Bull despite making his first Formula 1 paddock appearance since his abrupt departure from the team.
The former Red Bull boss attended the British GP as a guest of Formula 1 and the FIA, but was also seen spending time with members of his former team after Sunday’s race.
“It all happened very quickly, but what happened, happened. I think there’s now a certain understanding that it all could have been done a little differently.
“But life goes on. I hold no grudges against anyone.”
Horner also reflected proudly on the Red Bull-Ford power unit project that was launched under his leadership.
“I think that engine is incredible,” he told Viaplay.
“You have to remember, that factory was making bubble wrap. Sometimes it’s too easy to not recognise that achievement.
“It’s ahead of everybody apparently, so I’m tremendously proud of that.”
Although Horner says he has enjoyed time away from Formula 1, he is now contractually free to return, with speculation linking him to a potential twelfth team backed by Chinese automotive giant BYD.
“All speculation…” Horner told ORF.
“Sometimes there’s more to life than Formula 1,” he added to Viaplay.
“You know, never believe a rumour. There’s a rumour every week and there will be another rumour tomorrow I am sure.”
Nevertheless, Horner’s appearance at Silverstone was closely watched, not least because he was accompanied by former Red Bull communications chief Alice Hedworth, who only left the team two months ago.
Current team bosses were also asked about the possibility of Formula 1 expanding to a twelfth team after Cadillac’s arrival this year.
“I haven’t thought about it,” McLaren chief Zak Brown said.
“If they think it’s good for the sport, then let’s have a 12th team. If they think it’s not, we’ll stay with what we’ve got.”
Alpine’s Steve Nielsen added: “I think it slightly depends who it is.”
