Jul.1 (GMM) Christian Horner is once again being linked with Aston Martin as speculation continues over where the former Red Bull boss could make his Formula 1 return.
Horner was first connected with Aston Martin immediately after his Red Bull departure, although nothing materialised, while more recent reports have linked him with Alpine, Chinese manufacturer BYD and even a potential twelfth Formula 1 team.
The latest Aston Martin rumours emerged in the British press, but the Silverstone-based team declined to deny them.
“In accordance with our policy, we do not comment on rumours and speculation,” an Aston Martin spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Horner’s long-time ally Bernie Ecclestone revealed he had another destination in mind.
“I speak to him quite often,” the former Formula 1 supremo said in Austria last weekend.
“Immediately after his departure, I tried to convince him to go to Ferrari.”
95-year-old Ecclestone believes Horner’s next move will come with significant pressure.
“Christian is in a difficult situation,” he said.
“No matter where he goes, if he doesn’t succeed there, everyone will say that he only won at Red Bull because of the big budget.”
For now, Horner is working as a consultant for London-based investment firm Oakley Capital while waiting for the right opportunity to return to Formula 1.
“I look forward to working together in the future (with Oakley) and sharing my experience to help support the next generation of standout sports businesses,” Horner said.
