Dec.15 (GMM) Formula 1’s long-term future was formally secured in Tashkent last Friday as the FIA, Formula 1 Group and all 11 teams signed the ninth Concorde Agreement, locking in governance and participation through the end of the decade.
The deal, signed on the sidelines of the FIA General Assembly and prize-giving week in Uzbekistan, completes the framework first outlined earlier this year with the commercial side of the agreement, and confirms grid stability through 2030 – including the incoming Cadillac team.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the agreement provides “fairness, stability, and shared ambition,” while F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali called it “an important day” that ensures the sport can continue its global growth.
The signing came as Ben Sulayem was also formally re-elected for a second four-year term as FIA president, despite ongoing controversy surrounding governance reforms and the election process itself.
Ben Sulayem was unapologetic in Tashkent, insisting he would change “nothing” about his first term and dismissing criticism as part of the job. The 64-year-old also drew attention at the FIA prize gala by playfully ruffling new world champion Lando Norris’ hair on stage – a moment that quickly spread online.
Absent from the ceremony was Max Verstappen. The FIA confirmed the four-time world champion and 2025 runner-up was excused from the mandatory event on medical advice, citing flu-like symptoms.
