Dec.10 (GMM) Jack Doohan is severing ties with Alpine and switching his career momentum firmly toward Toyota – and potentially Haas – as the 2026 era approaches.
The Australian began 2025 as Alpine’s rookie race driver, contesting six grands prix before Flavio Briatore abruptly replaced him with Franco Colapinto. Doohan stayed on as reserve for the rest of the season, but Finland’s Ilta Sanomat reports that chapter is now closed.
Doohan has re-emerged in Japan this week, confirmed for all three days of the Super Formula post-season test at Suzuka. The series itself announced on Monday.
“Jack Doohan is confirmed to join the Super Formula Suzuka Test taking place on December 10, 11, and 12,” the series declared.
According to the report, the appearance of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan’s 22-year-old son is no simple offseason outing. Toyota is said to be backing his 2026 Super Formula campaign, positioning him squarely within the manufacturer’s growing single-seater ecosystem.
Toyota’s influence extends directly to Haas through their deepening partnership and new title sponsorship alliance, and Doohan is now understood to be in talks about a reserve role with the American team for next year.
Like rally star Kalle Rovanpera, who is also undertaking a full Super Formula program with Toyota support, Doohan will run every morning and afternoon session this week at Suzuka as he resets his career in Japan and builds ties with an organisation rapidly expanding its global motorsport footprint.
