Jan.26 (GMM) Audi has launched a new driver development program as part of its build-up to Formula 1, appointing Allan McNish as director.
The initiative is designed to identify and develop young talent from karting and the junior single-seater ladder, forming a structured pathway into Audi’s future Formula 1 operation.
McNish, a former F1 driver and three-time Le Mans winner with Audi, said the program would look beyond raw pace.
“We are not just looking for speed,” McNish said. “We are looking for resilience, intelligence and a team-driven mindset that defines a future Audi champion.”
Team principal Jonathan Wheatley said the program underlined Audi’s long-term ambitions in Formula 1.
“Investing in the champions of tomorrow is a key pillar of our Formula 1 strategy,” Wheatley said. “With Allan McNish, we have a director who embodies the spirit and dedication of our project.”
