The Daytona 500 is the first race of the each new season and is the most prestigious race of the year. NASCAR’S Daytona 500 stock car race is like the Indy car’s Indy 500, Le Mans 24 hour sports car race and the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. It is a race that every driver wants to win as the prestige is second only to winning the championship.
The 500 is the final event of Speedweek which is a full week festival of speed in the last week of February. The Daytona 500 is known as the “Crown Jewel of Stock car racing”, “Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing” or “the Great American Race“. With these sorts of accolades there is no doubt February is the biggest event on the NASCAR calendar.
