Monterey Historics Week
I still call the events the Monterey Historics, but there are so many events going on that its name should be simply Monterey Car Week. One week in August that can give the auto enthusiast enough excitement to last a year. If you have never been there, you`ve got to go. When did this incredible event start?
You have to go back to 1950 when the original Road Race course of Pebble Beach wound its way through the forest using 2.1 miles of the narrow roads. It`s where Phil Hill made his name before going off to Italy to be part of the Ferrari team, and later to become World Champion. The course was too dangerous and the races stopped in 1956 after a fatality, but it made Monterey and Pebble Beach synonymous with racing and beautiful cars.

The Pebble Beach Concours d`Elegance was also inaugurated during the same year as the race; it is an event of dazzling elegance, appropriately held at a resort famous for both its beauty and its refinement. Now in its 66th year, Pebble Beach has been host to what is quite simply the finest exhibition of show cars in the world. The Sunday in August on the 18th fairway is an annual gathering of rare and antique automobiles, international automotive luminaries and motorcar enthusiasts from around the globe.
It was not long before Laguna Seca Raceway was opened in 1957 to take over from the forest circuit. All the greats have raced their over the years and the the raceway has enjoyed many famous events. Steve Earle founded the famed Monterey Historics in 1973 and after 36 races handed over the reins to the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula. The race is now known as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Approximately 550 race cars are invited to compete in the world`s premier historic motoring event. Entries are invited based on the car`s authenticity, race provenance and period correctness.
But this is only the beginning; there are rallies, several separate car shows, and several exotic car auctions. There is much more that we will cover in Included Free Events and VIP Add-Ons
