Chinese Grand Prix

Chinese Grand Prix 2017

Safe, colorful and friendly, with a population of over 24 million, Shanghai is a city enjoying explosive growth and prosperity. The futuristic skyline of the Pudong district, dominated by the 1544 ft Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and many magnificent skyscrapers dominate the Huangpu river.

This area was just paddy fields only thirty years ago. The Chinese Grand Prix fits into the move towards technology and western standards that China is developing.

Chinese Grand Prix--Choice of Tickets and Hospitality--Shanhai Hotel

The city is a tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as the Bund and City God Temple, its modern and ever-expanding Pudong skyline including the Oriental Pearl Tower, and its new reputation as a cosmopolitan center of culture and design. Today, Shanghai is the largest center of commerce and finance in mainland China, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world`s fastest-growing major economy.

The F1 Chinese Grand Prix ciruit in Shanghai is like no other, shaped after the character Shang, it is the last word in track design. Sweeping curves and long straights leading onto hairpin corners, succeeded in making overtaking opportunities possible.

RACE OVERVIEW

Chinese Grand PrixA vision of a Grand Prix in China came to light in the mid1980`s and early 90`s as China began its slow move towards democracy. Hong Kong and Macau retained their own capitalist economy and political systems after China took over from British control. At the same time Special Economic Zones were established in provinces close to Hong Kong and this is where there was an inkling of Formula One. Zhuhai is a China`s premier tourist destination, being called the Chinese Riviera. This was where China built a Formula One track called the Zhuhai International Circuit for the 1999 F1 World Championship. The track failed to meet FIA safety standards and was cancelled.

By 2002 with the help of the Macau F3 Grand Prix organizers and design skills of Hermann Tilke completed the most expensive race track ever built up to that time. The Shanghai International Circuit was ready for the 2004 season. Our first view of the track was full of amazement with two bridges anchoring the pits with press facilities and between is a large grand stand. The area behind the pits houses the teams in a lake like water-park setting with the teams being housed on small islands in luxurious villas.

The Chinese Grand Prix is in its thirteenth season and enjoys a high reputation for organization and exciting races. The first race saw Ferrari drive Rubens Barrichello win followed Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen in third place. A year later it was Alonso who took the race and also the championship for himself and the Renault team The Ferraris of Schumacher and Raikkonen took the following two wins and Mercedes dominating the rest of the events with Vettel winning in 2009 for Red Bull, and Alonso taking the 2013 race for Ferrari.
