Australian Grand Prix 2018

Join Grand Prix Tours as we head down under to take in the first race of the season. Melbourne is one of the friendliest cities in the world and their four day festival of speed is fantastic!

For the 2018 Australian Grand Prix we have the finest tickets, hospitality packages and accommodations available. Traveling to and from the track is a breeze with the Melbourne tram system close to your hotel.

Australians know how to party and this Grand Prix is no exception. Live rock concerts and big festivities they certainly know how to put on a show! Melbourne is a wonderful city, similar to that of California fifty years ago. There is lots of space and an air of excitement to go along with wonderful weather.

Australian Grand Prix Melbourne at Albert Park

The track in Albert Park dates back twenty years and while it is termed a "street track" it is very much a modern circuit. The track located inside the park sweeps past a myriad of other sporting venues within the park.

The Australian Grand Prix is a great race to start the season as it takes place in the Australian autumn and the weather is usually very good. After the pre-season tests this is where the kidding stops and you see who is quick and who is going to have a difficult start to the season.

While in Melbourne exploring the laneways, you`ll find world-class restaurants in converted warehouses and secret underground locations. You never quite know what`s in store when you wander off Melbourne`s grid of city streets and into the maze of gothic alleyways behind them. Discover a late-night jazz bar or watch the world go by from a tiny trattoria. You can also browse boutiques and check out urban art.

Join Grand Prix Tours for the season opener and enjoy 4 days of entertainment at the track, on the ground and in the air!

RACE OVERVIEW

Australian Grand Prix
Going way back to Phillips Island in 1928, the Australian Grand Prix brought about an era of Australian Specials. Races called the Australian Grand Prix were run on dirt-tracks, airfield circuits, Calder Park Raceway, Mount Panorama now the home for Bathurst 1000 races, and a myriad of tracks throughout Australia.

In the fifties and sixties they ran the Tasman series with many Grand Prix teams bringing last year`s formula 1 cars. The drivers enjoyed the sun plus the prize money and the team owners sold their cars at the end of the Tasman series. Everyone in F1 would go home happy and start a new season.

Bruce McLaren, and Jack Brabham followed them back and started building their own teams with future world Champion Danny Hulme following them. It was Jack Brabham who became the only F1 World Champion to drive a car of his own team.

In 1985 Formula 1 brought the Australian Grand Prix into the World Championship at Adelaide. The city really got involved the race with street parties and a carnival atmosphere. Ever heard of an upside down meat pie in pea soup, venders served them on the street and they tasted really good. Melbourne, the `city of sport`, stole away the Australian Grand Prix to run at Albert Park in 1996. It has now become the home of the Australian Grand Prix with a contract until 2023.

The Australian Grand prix is an awesome event held in the Australian Autumn when the weather is much better than the Northern US States. New F1 cars, new drivers entering the championship, start of a new F1 season, it really makes the trip to Melbourne special. You will love Melbourne.
