Goodwood Revival

Freddywas a racer through and through. He was apprenticed to Bentley Motors as a mechanic. He was a member of the works Austin team that won the Brooklands 500 in1930. He created his own team of MG Midgets in `31 and won the Brooklands double twelve race. Freddie who you may say, Frederick Charles Gordon-Lennox, 9th Duke of Richmond, 9th Duke of Lennox, 9th Duke of Aubigny (French noble title) and 4th Duke of Gordon. Freddie was Lord March`s grandfather having settled at Goodwood Estate after selling his interests in Scotland, including Gordon Castle, to pay death duties.

During the WWII the British Air Force built an aerodrome on the Estates land. At the end of hostilities Freddie built a race track on the perimeter of the aerodrome. Goodwood Circuit became an important race track in the UK, however speeds on the circuit grew faster and in 1966 Freddie closed the circuit to racing events in 1966. The Goodwood Circuit was reopened by Lord March for the Goodwood Revival.

The Duke was the longest-serving Vice President of the Royal Automobile Club, with which he was associated since 1948. As early as the thirties, he was the motoring correspondent of the Sunday Referee, and became the Founder President of the Guild of Motoring Writers.

The Goodwood Revival takes you back 50 years or more; with wheel to wheel racing in the same cars that raced in that era. Between 1948 and 1966 Goodwood was a major circuit vying with the likes of Brands Hatch and Silverstone as the best circuit in the United Kingdom, and it is still the same as it was in the 1960`s. The cars are all from the same vintage with no modern cars allowed on the track, so why not have the crowd dress from that era going back in time fifty years.

Oh I forgot, most of the drivers are from that vintage, you can rub shoulders with the likes Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Derek Bell, David Coulthard, Damon Hill, Gerhard Berger, Martin Brundle, Bobby Rahal, Johnny Herbert, Wayne Gardner, Giacomo Agostini, Jean Alesi, Barry Sheene and Peter Brock, as well as celebrities such as Chris Rea, and Rowan Atkinson (as Mr. Bean).
