Monaco Le Ponant

Le Ponant

7 Nights on the Antigua Deck

A Monaco Grand Prix

Monaco is like no other place on earth. It is the home of the super-rich, who take their out-of-town vacation when the crowds and noisy race cars come once a year. They like their elbow room and being able to get a table at their favorite restaurant. Ever bought a $70 beer or a Coke for $50? During the Grand Prix the nicely-printed new menus are more than double the regular prices, if you can get a table.

You can tell your friends back home about the $70 bottles of beer and the $300 scotch at the Billionaires Club you didn`t buy. There are tales that the crews of super yachts have spent $70,000 for an evening out on the owner`s tab. Sounds crazy doesn`t it, but it is the excesses of corporate spending that people brag about when they get home.

Stay on le ponant and you can go where ever and whenever you want to go. If you are tempted to be on a big cruise lines be aware they will have to follow a stricked schedule have to stay out anchored at sea, and that is a problem. You get a few white caps and you can`t get off the ship - imagine going all that way to Monaco, spending oodles of money, and not seeing the race? You can also get stuck in Monaco if the ship sails to a safer harbor. Vacations are not for this type of predicament.

We have operated tours to the Monaco Grand Prix for over 30 years and have experienced all the problems you can have. You can look on a map that shows a grandstand within easy reach - because of road closures it will take you 50 minutes to get there by foot, unless you know about the tunnels that will shorten your walk to a few minutes. All the GP Tours staff has experienced the Monaco Grand Prix over 20 times. They know how to get to the Old Town in a few minutes, or the Casino by boat and elevator in five minutes flat.

The Monaco Grand Prix can be a nightmare or the most exciting weekend of your life. We prefer the latter as we organize the trip, and look after you with our expertise when you are there. We make sure you get the best Monaco Grand Prix available. Our inside connections allow us to get the best rooms and the best viewing locations available, along with our knowledge of the each event location you will be sure to have an experience of a life time and a hassle-free weekend.

The question is how can we offer our clients something that will bring them back to Monaco time and time again? The best would be to offer the ability to be part of Formula 1. But how can this happen without owning a team worth at least $100M. We could charter a ship and get into the port of Monaco with a team. So that`s what we do with Le Ponant.

Of course like so many things it is easier said than done. We have chartered the ship on twelve occasions, but in 2008 we have a story to tell. This is a copy of the story straight out of Wikipedia about the pros and cons of wanting the very best for our clients.

On April 4, 2008, Le Ponant was seized by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden while en route from the Seychelles to the Mediterranean. The ship carried no passengers at the time of its capture, but all 30 crew members were taken hostage; one Cameroonian, six Filipinos, 22 French, and one Ukrainian. French forces - including Commandant Bouan - and a Canadian CH-124 helicopter from HMCS Charlottetown were monitoring the yacht after its seizure.[5] The hostages were released without incident on April 12.

Following the release, French helicopters from the Djibouti military base tracked the pirates to the village of Jariban. French commando marine and GIGN operating from the frigate Jean Bart and the cruiser Jeanne d`Arc moved in when the pirates attempted to flee in the desert. A sniper disabled the get-away vehicle, and the commandos were able to capture six men. Local officials claimed that three people died in the raid, with a further eight wounded, but France denied this. Troops also recovered some of the ransom money paid by the owner of the yacht for the release of its crew. The six captured pirates were flown to Paris, where they faced trial in 2012.

That was in 2008 and we had a wonderful time with lots of thrilling stories from the crew.

*Monaco Port Charges

We are confirmed inside the Monaco Harbor during the Grand Prix! This truly is a luxury and as such comes with a price tag! Spaces are limited and only those with "connections" are even considered. Stepping on and off Le Ponant at your whim, instead of waiting for boat tenders ashore, and being right in the hub of the F1 paddock area is indeed a thrill. Port charges are $1970 per person.

F1 Driver Hosted Party

Along with the desire to see the machines of F1 charge around the many circuits of the world lies an even greater passion to get to know the men behind the machines. On Thursday enjoy a glass of wine and tasty hors d`oeuvres onboard Le Ponant and let us make your race weekend one to remember as an F1 Driver and race commentator show you what racing is like from the inside out.

Our driver, Romain Grosjean is a 30 year old racing driver from Geneva, Switzerland racing for the American Hass F1 Team. He races under the French flag and holds a French/Swiss nationality. He started racing as a team driver for Renault after the Flavio Briatore episode when Briatore was banned from participating in F1 for life. The team was in disarray and he had a tough introduction to Formula One. Three years ago after Renault sold the team to a Lotus branded car, Romain has had considerable success and became a solid number 1 driver.

When the Hass Team was looking for a top driver they chose Romain. His efforts this year have been excellent and he has scored points in most of the races. Romain has brought the team into the midfield which is unusual for a new team. As an American Team it has immediately shown that they have a competitive car, Romain Grosjean has certain helped the team with his experience as an F1 driver and knowledge of F1

The coast between Cinque Terre and Portovenere is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the harmonious interaction between people and nature. In other words, the remarkable way homes cling to the steep and jagged cliffs like clusters of mussels, becoming one with the precarious landscape. The 12th-century tower houses were built by the Genoese with defense as well as housing in mind, and it would have taken an intrepid attacker to climb the narrow tunnel leading to the castle above. This was once a favorite haunt of the poets Shelley, Byron, and Lawrence. Visit Byron`s Cave, where the poet used to swim. Admire the black and white stripes of the Church of San Pietro, perched on a rock in the sea. Travel to nearby Florence to swoon at the works of Michelangelo, da Vinci, Raphael, and Botticelli.

Cannes is the sister city to Beverly Hills and the chic epicenter of the French Riviera - a world of exclusive boutiques, palm-lined avenues, starlet-studded beaches, and elegant sidewalk cafes. The famous Film Festival is in full swing with international celebrities gathering to screen films and make deals...sunning by day, and a club and casino scene by night.

Monte Carlo

The fairy-tale kingdom of Monte Carlo glitters with opulence and jet-set glamour, and the action centers around its famed casinos. Inside, under gilt-edged ceilings and ornate frescoes, fortunes are made or lost. Elsewhere in Monaco are the Prince`s Palace, from which the Grimaldi dynasty has ruled since 1297; the Cathedral where Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier; and the Rock of Monaco, where gardens cascade to the sea.

The above events are included in tour price.
