Monaco Grand Prix
1965

Five months had passed since the South African Grand Prix. Several non-championship events took place in the time between championship events. Team Lotus scored a victory with Mike Spence at the Race of Champions; Jim Clark won at Syracuse and Goodwood. Newcomer Jackie Stewart won the International Trophy for BRM. The Monaco Grand Prix fell on the same weekend as the Indy 500 so Clark and Gurney did not enter the race. The organizers and Team Lotus got into a fight and as a result the team withdrew from the Monaco Grand Prix.

Graham Hill was the fastest during practice and took the pole position. Beside Hill was Jack Brabham and in the second row were Stewart and Bandini. Hill and Stewart made good starts with Hill in front. Not far behind the two were Bandini, Surtees, Brabham and McLaren. On lap twenty-five, Hill was trying to lap Bob Anderson but had to go up an escape road to avoid hitting the back marker. Anderson's car was having a mechanical problem. Hill dropped to fifth place and Stewart took the lead. Stewart held the front for four laps before spinning out at Ste Devote and dropping to fourth.

Brabham grabbed the Monaco Grand Prix lead, following the misfortunes of his rival but soon experienced his own misfortune with an engine failure. Bandini then took his turn at the front with Hill closing in on him. On lap sixty-five Hill took the lead back from Bandini and Stewart closed in on Surtees for third. On lap seventy-nine Paul Hawkins spun out at the chicane and into the harbor but emerged unharmed. Hill took the Monaco Grand Prix win and Bandini came second followed by Stewart.
