Monaco Grand Prix
1964

Once again the World Championship started at the Monaco Grand Prix and there were some changes to the field again. Ferrari retained John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini. Colin Chapman at Team Lotus retained Jim Clark and gained Peter Arundell over Trevor Taylor. BRM produced the new P261 for Graham Hill and Richie Ginther. The Cooper Car Company was being run by Ken Tyrrell after John Cooper's road accident and entered Bruce McLaren and Phil Hill. Brabham brought along the BT7 for himself and Dan Gurney and the BT11 for his customers. There was much speculation about Honda and their relatively unknown S. Cal driver Ronnie Bucknum.

Clark started on the pole again for the Monaco Grand Prix with Brabham next to him on the front row. Surtees and Graham Hill started in the third and fourth positions. From the start Clark took the lead. Gurney moved ahead of Hill and Brabham. Surtees started to experience gearbox problems. Brabham ran into engine trouble early on and Clark's car had been trailing a roll bar. The pit stop dropped Clark to third behind Gurney and Hill. On lap fifty-three of the Monaco Grand Prix Hill took the lead and Gurney stayed second until the sixty-second lap when Gurney's gearbox failed.

Clark tried to catch Hill but to no avail and in the last few laps his engine failed leaving Hill a lap ahead of everyone else. So the final order for this years Monaco Grand Prix was, Hill finished first, followed by Ginther for BRM and Arundell in his Lotus.
