Monaco Grand Prix
1958

Following the surprise win by Stirling Moss in Buenos Aires with the mid-engined Cooper, Ferrari returned to form with a win for the new Dino 246 at Syracuse and the International trophy races. The Ferrari team were favorites to win the Monaco Grand Prix, but instead British made cars dominated qualfying. Tony Brooks held the pole position in a Vanwall with Jean Behra in a BRM and Jack Brabham in a Cooper in the front row. The second row held Salvadori in his Cooper and Trintignant a Cooper as well. Hawthorn's Ferrari shared the third row with the Vanwall's of Lewis-Evans and Stirling Moss. Team Lotus debuted at Monaco with drivers Cliff Allison and Graham Hill. The Connaught team also came back since Bernie Eccelstone bought the cars. Bruce Kessler, Paul Emery and Eccelstone all tried to qualify but failed.

For the Monaco Grand Prix, Salvadori took the lead at the start of the race but went wide at the first corner and broke his suspension after contact with another car. Behra then took the lead from Brooks, Brabham and Moss. Hawthorn moved in fast during the early laps, making it to third place by lap eight. In the twenty-second lap Brooks retired due to an engine misfire. While that happened Moss was closing in on Hawthorn and Behra went into the pits with brake trouble. Hawthorn and Moss then began to battle each other for the lead. Moss took the lead on the thirty-third lap but ran into engine failure on the thirty-eighth so Hawthorn was able to retake the lead. On lap forty-six Hawthorn stopped with a broken fuel pump leaving Trintignant in the lead in his Cooper. Trintignant had a forty second lead on the other racers and secured his position while Musso and Behra followed far behind. Brabham finished fourth, Schell in fifth and Allison in sixth place at the Monaco Grand Prix.
