The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA, as the Malaysians like to call it) also doubles as the cornerstone of Sepang, Malaysia`s state-of-the-art Grand Prix race track. Which means that the Malaysian Grand Prix is a case study in what the FIA Formula One World Championship is all about.

The Malaysian government decided to build not only a new airport and hotel but also a Formula One Grand Prix track. For the fans, Sepang is the nearest thing to nirvana you will find this side of the International Date Line. The grandstands provide panoramic views of the action and are covered - all-important for those warm tropical downpours. In the background, the profile of KL shimmers in the haze.

Being a relatively young city, Kuala Lumpur`s colonial buildings were built just a century ago are in sharp contrast to the modern buildings that dominate the skyline. Towering above the skyline are the Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower, two of the tallest buildings in the world. The city has developed into an international shopping destination with a wide variety of shopping centers and megamalls which carry well-known global and local brands.

Exotic, lurid, cosmopolitan, corporate, teeming - the adjectives all apply.
