Bernie Ecclestone`s dream of getting Formula 1 to India is coming to realization. The contract has been signed and construction on the circuit is well underway. New circuits often resort to tricks like a night race at Singapore, or the stunning construction at the Yas Marina Circuit at Abu Dhabi and one presumes India might just pull an elephant out of its hat to impress the who`s who of the world when they arrive in December for the inaugural race.
Organizers of the first ever Indian Grand Prix continue to prepare for the arrival of Formula 1 in the shape of a sizeable complex, just over 20 miles outside New Delhi. The area - dubbed a `sport city` - includes a brand-new metro station as well as an eight-lane motorway. The circuit we be an undulating 3.4-mile track expected to have the second fastest average speed of any circuit on the calendar behind Monza. Teams have had input on the circuit as well; details were sent to the teams and the information was programmed into their simulators so they could give feedback on where to make improvements and add overtaking opportunity points.
Delhi can be downright overwhelming for the first-time visitor but don`t let this intimidate you. Scratch beyond the gritty surface and you`ll quickly discover that India`s capital is sprinkled with glittering gems: captivating ancient monuments, magnificent museums, a vivacious performing-arts scene and some of the subcontinent`s yummiest places to eat. Delhi encapsulates two very different worlds, the `old` and the `new`, each presenting deliciously different experiences. Spacious New Delhi was built as the imperial capital of India by the British; rambunctious Old Delhi served as the capital of Islamic India. Visitors can easily dip into both, spending half the day immersing themselves in history at the dramatic Red Fort and medieval-flavored bazaars of Old Delhi, and the other half reviving themselves over frothy cappuccinos or cocktails at one of New Delhi`s swanky cafés and bars.
There is an incredible amount of excitement when a new race pops up on the Formula 1 calendar and we can`t wait to be a part of it. Join us and experience the inaugural Indian Grand Prix?
